ファルクニーベンDC4到着！！！

ファルクニーベンDC4が届きました！！ワーィ

と言うわけで早速レビューです。

まずはスペック＞

箱出しインプレッション＞
‐　重い！ってそんなに重くは無いのだけど、予想していた感覚とは大きく違ったので重く感じます。　‐　ケースが本物の革！これはうれしいですね。
‐　セラミックとダイヤの張り併せにずれがある。たいしたことじゃ無いけどね。
‐　ダイヤはファルクニーベンのD4を張ってあるだけじゃーないか！！たいしたことじゃ無いけどね。

‐　セラミック側・・・これ本気ですか？不良品かと思うような仕上げ。
セラミック側が粗いと言う話は聞いていたのだけど、はっきり言ってこれはそんな程度じゃぁ無い。ブツブツのセラミックの塊粒が表面に張り付いて飛び出してる。これに刃を当てるのちょっと躊躇するよ。

使用インプレッション＞
とりあえずSAKを当ててみた・・・ガリガリガエェェェ？？？セラミックってこんなに柔らかかったっけ？刃を立てたら掘れちゃったよ！なんか柔らか人口砥石使ってるみたいな感覚。
とりあえず研ぎ上げて試し切り→ダイヤ＃６００程度の切れ味。

『使いこなれると良くなる』と言うメーカーの話。しかしそんなに待てないので思い切ってダイヤ砥石で一皮削り落としてみる。ついでに平面も出す。

はっきり言って平面精度は酷いです。

あちらこちらが上がったり下がったり・・・削り始めるとアッというまにこげ茶の削りかすが大量に出てくる。

そして・・・　突然まったく削れなくなる。

どうやらまともなセラミック層が出てきたらしい。真ん中がまだ微妙に低めだが、これで良しとする。だって削れないんだもん！

これで先ほどのSAKを研ぎなおすと・・・　＃６０００で仕上げたような切れ味！

これは使える。ダイヤの方はかなりまともで、粒もしっかり揃っている様だし、地を引くようなこと無い。
多分これがあれば、小さい欠けなら簡単に研ぎなおせそうだ。はっきり言ってお勧めできるフィールド砥石です。

補足＞
私が入手したのはモデルチェンジ後の新型。昔からのユーザーの話では、旧型の方が良かったそうです。違いは、旧型の方がセラミック砥の仕上げが良く、目詰まり防止の溝が切ってあったそうです。


Since there are quite many review of this product in ENG, I am posting this review in ENG only in brief.

Fällkniven DC4 The diamond/ceramic whetstone.
The first impression I got when I opened the package was quite heavy. I am not saying that is bad thing, just felt so.
But the worst thing about first impression of this product was the ceramic side. I though it is a defect, since there was so many large grains sticking out from surface. I gave 2nd though of running blade on this thing. But, had to try, so tried with SAK.
The ceramic was real soft, that the SAK blade scraped of the thin layer of stone. This can’t be right. And end result was as good as sharpen by #600.
According to the maker, as you use this more, it settles the coarseness. But I can’t wait that long, so grinded down the surface with diamond sharpener.
This was a good idea and soon, I got real good ceramic hard surface. Also this has fixed the original non-flat surface to good enough flat.
After this fixing, the sharpening blade on this product seems to be excellent. It sharpens to as good as about #6000.
Based on the price, size, and performance, I would say that this is a very good field sharpening stone and worth carrying one…

ナイフビルド進んでます‐Little more of progress.

スタック・バーチバークのナイフビルド、もう少し進みました。
ボルスターの成形とバークワッシャーの切出しが終わったので早速糊付け積み重ね・・・
So, the cutting out of birch bark was done, so proceed to gluing...

はっきり言ってなめてました。こんなに時間がかかるとは予想外。３０分、接着剤の作業時間を大きく押しまくってやっと半分積み重ね完了。これ以上がんばると、接着剤が硬化を始めるのでここで一旦クランピング。
I was underestimating the time needed to stack up all this washers. It took about 30min to stack up only half of all the washers. And the recommended work time of this glue is 10 to 15 min; I was really pushing the limit. So, I had to stop here and let it set once.
一段目が硬化したところで残り半分です。さすがに作業に慣れてきたのか、この半分は２０分くらいで完了。
After over night, starting the last half of staking job. Seems I am getting hung of it, I managed to finish this part in 20 min.

とりあえず一安心、一晩硬化させて明日はバットピース付けに入れます。
Now, I can just relax and wait till the glue hardens. Then setting of the pommel tomorrow.

ちなみにこれがニホンジカの角の輪切り。半分以上が巣です、トナカイはこの巣がとても小さく、しかももっと締まっているのでそのまま使ってもあまり問題ないのですが・・・
On the comment, I have mentioned the antler core is really large… well here is the picture of it. More than half is soft core (I can’t find the correct name of this in eng…)

ついでなので、笛も作ってみました。犬笛にする予定なのでピッチは出来るだけ高めに。これは明日にでも犬を相手に調整し、マウスピースを接着して完成になります。
For fun, I also made whistle. I am planning on using this as a dog whistle or dog caller, so try to set the pitch as high as I can. Will adjust the pitch sometime tomorrow with help of my dogs.

little pogress.

Still not that feeling well, but can keep myself up and honestly, I am really tired of just doing nothing. So, I have picked up my tools and material box out of basement and set up the mobile / laptop workshop on sofa.

Can’t do much on this condition, but still can cut the birch bark. The antler bolster is also done now on this laptop work shop and it start to look something. Hope this comes out nice…

I still need to make double mount of birch bark washers and I am start to running out of my bark stock.

For the end cap or pommel, I am planning on making it same way as on bolster, and that part is in gluing process now.

All the materials I am using on this knife are first time for me. Especially the antler, it is totally different from reindeer that the soft core is really large. I am still not decided yet that if I will hollow it then fill up with epoxy or just cement it with some glue…

熱出して寝込んでおります。

イヤー実のところ、熱を出して火曜日から寝込んでおりました。今日になってやっと布団から起き出せるようになり、やっと医者に行き、今週いっぱいは仕事病欠です・・・

が、やっと起き出せる様になり、休みは休みでもたいしたことは出来ません。ただひたすら寝る食うのみ。本当は森に行ったり、鍛冶道具引っ張り出してナイフの一本でも打ってみたりしたいのだけど、現時点ではネットが精一杯。そしてこのネットがまた危ない。。。

通常立ち寄るページは全部チェック完了し、残るはネットショップ・・・
空けちゃいましたよ溜まっているウィッシュリストのブックマークを。

で、その中で今まで送料との割が合わないので買わないでいたＦａｌｌｋｎｉｖｅｎＤＣ４が悪魔のささやき・・・
もう我慢できないのでサイトを１日かけて漁り、Ｏｐｉｎｅｌとパラコードの２点追加、先ほど購入ボタンをポチッと押したところです。
いや本当は、気になっていたSvord とCitadelのフォルダー二本も妻に止められるまでは買い物籠に入っていたのだけどね・・・

そうそう、実は私、始まりはフォルダー派です、が、何となくアンチオピネルで今まで一本も所有したことが無かったのですよ。それがなぜか最近になって急に欲しい熱がでましてね・・・それで今回炭素鋼のＮｏ．９を注文したのです。


たぶん到着は来週、楽しみ楽しみ！！

I am on sick leave

I am on sick leave and was in bed since Monday night. cant' do anything but stay in bed and think of going out in woods or pulling out my forging sets on yard... this is mentally not healthy but can not do anything about it.
Finally today, manage to got up an get to doctor and got sick leave till end of this week. but still cannot do anything fun.

Well, at lest my 3 beautiful dogs are keeping me company and providing me with quite an entertainment.

週末 – Weekend

 あれだこれだと、色々やっている内に、何も終わらないまま週末が終わってしまいました。一応予告していた白紙研ぎのレビューも撮影は出来ているのだけど、編集がまだ。


柄入れした斧の試し切りもしたのだけど・・・折れたよ、ポッキリト、何の前兆も無く。やっぱり、木目が通って無かったです。で、新しい柄を作り始め。デモなんかやる気が出ないので、他の事始めたりあーだこーだで何も完了せずにタイムアップ。やる気の出ない時は何やってもだめですね。


It was a weekend, nothing was done. Yes, I have done the wastikivi follow up review shooting, but not the editing. Test chopping of new axe… well, it broke without warning... The grain was at all going through the helve… so I have started the making of new helve but, somehow my feeling was not in place. Tried to do something else but was not feel up to it ether…
When the mind is not set clearly, nothing will happen…

 

Announcement of Wästikivi review followup - ワスティキヴィの補足レビュー予告

前回投稿したレヴューに対して、合わせの刃物や、さらに硬い刃物ではどうなの？と言うコメントがいくつか挙がってきたのでちょっと試してみる予定です。現在予定している研ぎ対象は白二号の鉋。私の持っている刃物の中では一番硬い刃物で、ロゼッリのUHCにも硬さ、成分的にも一番近いので、候補に挙げています。時間が取れ次第（たぶん今週末）ヴィデオ撮りますのでお楽しみに！

I have gor few comments regarding to the Wästikivi review I have posted few days ago. The comments were “What about laminated blade?”, “What about much harder steel like UHC from Roselli?”. These question interests me as well, so I decided to give a shot. But unfortunately, I do not own any UHC blade. But I have a blade made with Japanese Hitach white paper 2 steel. According to the spec, C content of this steel is 1.2-1.0% and HRC of 60 to 65, so quite close to Roselli UHC. I think this should do the test subject.
